1° day: Salerno
Arrival in Salerno, transfer to the hotel.
1°/8° day: Salerno
7-night stay, with breakfast, at the Grand Hotel Salerno.
In the afternoon: Urban trekking of the city with a guide, you will cross the city center to get to the historic center, along the road stop at the Medieval Aqueduct (Arco dei Diavoli), continue to Piazza Flavio Gioia and visit the Church of Santa Maria dei Lama, the Duomo , the beautiful Church of San Giorgio, walk in the Villa Comunale and arrive at the restaurant. At the end, return to the hotel and overnight.
2° day: Salerno/Paestum/Castellabate/Salerno
After breakfast, meeting with the guide at the hotel and departure for Paestum. Guided tour of the Temples and the Museum. Visit and lunch in an estate with production of buffalo mozzarella.
In the afternoon departure for Castellabate, guided orientation walk and at 5.45 pm transfer to a winery with tasting of wines and typical products and visit of the cellars.
Free time. At the end, return to Salerno, dinner in a restaurant and overnight at the hotel.
3° day: Napoli/ Valva/Padula/Roscigno Vecchia/Salerno
After breakfast, meeting with the guide at the hotel and departure for Valva. Located on the eastern slopes of Mount Marzano, near the Serra delle Rose, Valva dominates the areas of the Sele valley bordered by the Picentini mountains. The largely mountainous area is rich in flora and fauna. Guided tour of Villa d’Ayala and its gardens, located in a setting of unusual beauty, wrapped in magical silence, it looks like an almost unreal environment, isolated from the outside world. With its wooded heritage, the park represents an authentic green lung. Treated with masterful art, the Villa expresses all the refinement of its creator: the Marquis D. Giuseppe Maria Valva in its fantastic sculptural creatures, in the caves, in the fountains, in the box hedges expertly trimmed.
Following departure for Padula. Guided tour of the Charterhouse. At the end, lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon, departure for Roscigno Vecchia, one of the most fascinating villages in Cilento, known by all as the ghost town since it has been uninhabited since 1908, but has kept the layout of the town intact and therefore declared a Unesco World Heritage Site. At the end, return to the hotel and overnight.
4° day: Salerno/Benevento/Sepino/Salerno
After breakfast, departure for Benevento where we will arrive around 10.00 am. The day will be dedicated to a guided tour of the historic center of the city of Benevento, an important Roman city on the Calore river, dating back to approx. 570. capital of the southern Lombard Duchy and between 758 and 760 considerably enlarged by the will of the Duke-Prince Arechi II. We will go to the characteristic Church of Santa Sofia and the nearby Museo del Sannio. We will then continue to visit the Roman Theater and the famous Arch of Trajan. At the end, lunch in a restaurant. Following visit to the small Roman city of Sepino, a miniature Pompeii, to see the Church of Santa Cristina, a structure dating back to the 12th century, the archaeological ruins of an ancient Roman city. At the end, return to the hotel and free dinner.
5° day: Salerno/Caserta/Sant’Agata dei Goti/Salerno
After breakfast, departure for Caserta which houses its art jewels, as well as in its historic center, also in the beautiful land that surrounds it. The ancient village of Casertavecchia, with a typical medieval layout, narrow alleys and stone houses are arranged around the Cathedral, is perched on a hill from which it dominates the surrounding area. Visit of the Royal Palace and after lunch in a restaurant visit of the San Leucio Complex, both of which are Unesco World Heritage sites. Continuation to Sant’Agata dei Goti, the medieval village is a tuff terrace suspended in time and surrounded by nature. Free time available. At the end, return to the hotel and free dinner.
6° day: Salerno/Costiera Amalfitana/Salerno
Departure for Maiori, guided tour of the complex of the Abbey of Santa Maria Olearia, built in the 10th century, inside a cave, by a monk from the East. Continue to Amalfi, visit the Duomo and free time. Continue to Scala where we will visit the church of SS. Annunziata di Minuta, which preserves a splendid cycle of medieval frescoes dedicated to San Nicola. This beautiful and elegant church is the most complete example of Romanesque style existing on the Amalfi Coast to be ascribed to the 9th century. at the time of Scala’s greatest prosperity. Located in the center of a characteristic and panoramic square, its entrance is preceded by a portico with three arches. Lunch in a restaurant. And to follow a visit to the splendid cathedral of Ravello, which has a basilica-like structure, divided into three naves, each supported by eight granite columns and a transept in which three apses open. At the end, departure for Positano, the pearl of the Amalfi Coast. Free time available. Return to Salerno and overnight.
7° day: Salerno/Napoli/Salerno
After breakfast, departure by minivan to Naples. We will begin with a visit to the complex of San Gregorio Armeno (visit of the cloister and the church), seat of the Order of the Adorers of the Eucharist, squeezed between the street that takes its name and the other interconnected alleys, overlooking the slope of via Cathedral; the church stands with a mammoth facade and staircase and portico in worked piperno, among other monumental churches. Followed by a walk through the shops of San Gregorio Armeno, is the famous street of the artisans of the crib, famous all over the world for the countless shops dedicated to crib art. The street joins two decumani perpendicularly, the Maggiore and the Inferiore, and it is enough to follow their paths to reach that kaleidoscope of colors, sounds, voices that is the via dei presepi: coming from via Duomo, you get there through the Decumano Maggiore ( via dei Tribunali) or the Decumano Inferiore (via San Biagio dei Librai). We will continue with the visit of the complex of Santa Chiara (visit of the cloister and the church), founded by King Roberto and his wife Sancia (1310). Below we will visit the church of Sant’Angelo a Nilo which is located in the historic center of Naples, on the south-east corner of Piazza San Domenico, with a facade facing via Mezzocannone. It is also known as the Brancaccio Chapel, as it houses one of the most important sculptures in the city, the Sepulcher of Cardinal Rainaldo Brancacci di Donatello, created in collaboration with Michelozzo. Followed by a visit to the Chapel of San Severo. At the end of the pizza break. We will continue with the visit of the San Lorenzo complex (6th and 13th century church and Greek-Roman excavations) and the Church of San Domenico, a basilica church in Naples, one of the most interesting from a historical and artistic point of view. It was commissioned by Charles II of Anjou and built between 1283 and 1324, it became the mother house of the Dominicans in the kingdom of Naples and the church of the Aragonese nobility. It is part of a convent complex located in the ancient city center, in the square of the same name. Free time for walking and shopping. Meeting in Piazza San Domenico at 9.00 pm and return to Salerno. Overnight at Hotel.
